Google Goes Mobile

Sunday, August 24th, 2008

Google has its fingers in so many different pies that it’s natural to think that they would come up with a “smart phone” to add to their list of accomplishments. They have. The HTC Dream is a phone that will be running the new Android system, giving it its first test run. According to sources, the phone will have a touch screen, full internet capabilities, access to IM and YouTube, along with 3 gigs of memory. What, though, does this mean for you and for your exchange hosting?

Exchange hosting already covers a number of different smart phones, including the Apple iPhone and the BlackBerry, so it makes sense that, soon after the debut date of November 10th, the new HTC Dream will be covered as well and wireless sync will be made available. If this phone runs anywhere near as well as it sounds, it will be the phone to carry around for a long time to come. Fortunately changing phones with your exchange hosting is a simple and easy process that takes hardly any time at all to accomplish.

Having Fun at Work

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

Work is, well, just that – work, and while your computer can help you to do many things, such as using exchange email hosting to be able to connect to your employees and using SharePoint to be able to share your information with important clients and business connections, people forget that you can do tons of fun things with your computer as well. That’s why The Hottest Gadgets has linked to 21 Cool and Unusual USP Powered Devices.

Getting hot at the office? Why not try the USB Powered Air Conditioned Shirt. How about a USB powered fake aquarium? Or a drum kit for those days when you really want to have some music in your office. Got vinyl that you’d like to have transferred into MP3 format? A USB record player may be just what you need. One of the favorites is this USB powered dart launcher. Getting annoyed by the person in the next cubicle or the one who is walking past your office constantly? Ready, aim, and fire one of three foam darts that are able to go 15 feet. Have fun with your computer, and remember that exchange hosting is here to help with the not-as-fun stuff.

Taking Away the Personal Factor?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

You’ve got MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and dozens of different chat applications running in offices around the world at any point in time. Some bosses worry that the constant technology is actually causing their employees to lose the human factor in their business dealing, and some even choose to avoid exchange hosting, worried that having it will make their employees less likely to pick up a phone and to actually talk to a business partner or client.

When it comes right down to it, exchange hosting is designed to help, not hinder. It is a great way for employees to access their email no matter where they are, but isn’t designed to allow them to chat with other people around the globe. It makes it simple for two people to be on the phone looking at the same spreadsheet, when you utilize SharePoint, and can save you thousands of dollars in air miles every year. Exchange hosting isn’t designed to take the place of an important face-to-face business meeting, but is there to help when that meeting may not be possible due to scheduling conflicts or other problems.

Google Chrome? What’s That?!

Monday, August 18th, 2008

For weeks there have been rumors flying around the internet that Google is going to unveil a new browser available for everyone to use. Does this have Firefox or IE shaking in their boots? Not yet. While Google is definitely a force to be reckoned with, they have not, as of yet, been able to prove their worth in the software industry. All the rumor of Google Chrome does is to prove that technology is quickly becoming king in this busy world of ours, making it all that much more important for you to make sure that your employees are as connected as possible.

Exchange hosting is a way to keep everyone connected without any muss or fuss. It allows you to be able to connect your employees to your work, much like a central hub, and gives everyone the opportunity to be able to stay in the loop. Using exchange hosting gives you access to other interesting technological gizmos and programs, such as SharePoint or Postini. While the future of Google Chrome is still a mystery, these programs are known world-wide and have proven themselves to be unbeatable in the business world.

The Not-So-Wonderful Spam

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

While the simulated meat product in the grocery store looks rather…strange…spam in your inbox can do much more than just cause indigestion. Spam is an actual threat to your computer and to any of the software you’re running. For instance, if you run a website for your company that has a blog attached, spam can cause your website, and even your server, to go down in flames. This is a very real threat and can be even more devastating if you haven’t backed everything up on your computer. Fortunately exchange hosting companies know about this threat and make sure to take care of it in advance.

Exchange hosting companies have a number of different types of software blockers that are designed to fight against the evils of Spam. This software is some of the most highly respected software in the world, and is able to be used by you for free, simply due to the fact that you have hired on with a company who is able to provide it for your usage. When you commit to an exchange hosting company, you never have to worry again that your computer or your systems will crash due to spam.

How to Choose

Friday, August 15th, 2008

With all of the different exchange hosting companies available online, who do you choose? It can be difficult for anyone to select the right exchange hosting company, but is especially difficult for someone who has no experience in computers, and chances are, if you’re opting to go with exchange hosting, you are doing so because you do not want to have to deal with the hassle of finding and hiring the right internet tech. How, though, do you know which is the right company for you?

For starters, ignore the price. The lower the price doesn’t always mean the better, and you may wind up getting exactly what you pay for. Next, have a chat with their customer service personnel. If they have customer service people who are fairly snobby to you, they may not work well if you need to call them at midnight. Next, see if they require you to sign a contract. It is never good to sign a contract when you are unsure of what you require – after all, contracts are hard to get out of and could cause you more frustration than good.

Is it Right for You?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

You own a business and you rely in computers and technology to see you through the day – but is it really something you need? That is a good question. In today’s economy, “waste-not want-not” is a good phrase to live by, and knowing if you truly need exchange hosting is the first way to save yourself some cash. Before you hire an exchange email hosting company, ask yourself a few questions.

1. Do my employees need to be able to connect to our company from an outside source? If they do, than exchange email hosting is a great way to allow them to get all of their necessary information from their computers no matter where they are.

2. Do I have my own server? If you don’t, you will need one to host Microsoft Exchange 2007, unless you go with exchange email hosting.

3. Do I have a good in-house tech? If you’re planning on running Microsoft Exchange 2007 on your own, this step is vital. If you plan on running it with another company, you don’t have to worry about finding and paying for an IT tech.
